Alpine Tundra

We went for a short hike at the Alpine Tundra area of Rocky Mountain National Park. At 13000 ft above sea level even a short hike can leave you out of breath. September 2006.

Like Father, Like Son

40 Years after my dad used to hike with me on his back I was doing the same thing with Olivia. Now she can hike on her own and it's Emily's turn to ride next! Photos by my mom, and Joana (notice how a mother frames a shot! :-)

Gathering of Promises at the Wave Organ

January 2006-While visiting Vera, Baddoura and Dan, we met up with April and Steve and we explored the wave organ on San Francisco Bay. Supposedly the waves or the tides push air through metal and concrete tubes to produce some music or sounds, but we were there for a while and didn't hear anything but sea gulls and boat horns. Still it's a cool place to take a walk to see the sights.

Heavy Weather at Cliff Palace, Mesa Verde

We went to see the Cliff Palace ruins at Mesa Verde and were with the last group going that day. The ranger almost cancelled it because of threatening weather but we all begged her to go and she finally relented. The weather came though and we all waited under one of the huge rock over hangs as lightning strikes lit the darkened sky and filled the canyon with crashing thunder. It was an awesome display and added to the atmosphere of the place.

High Flight

From up here things look pretty bright. Reminds me of the poem "High Flight" that was used as the nightly sign off for TV stations when I was a kid.
